The Top Gear standing audience who apply to the BBC for free tickets are put on an estimated 2–3 year waiting list.

FC Barcelona has over 156,000 members, and many of these members have been on the waiting list for season tickets for more than ten years.

The long-standing candidates, some of whom applied for membership more than half a century ago, have traditionally had the opportunity to buy a pair of Centre Court tickets in each week of the fortnight, while they serve out the equivalent of three life-sentences in the hope of one day becoming one of the 375 full Wimbledon members.
